Reasons Why Employee Well-Being Must Be Self-Managing

All leading organizations around the world have one thing in common, that is, a high employee satisfaction score on the market. Though there are many factors leading to the success of a company, however, if the employees of an organization are not contented, there isn’t a very bright future for that organization in the coming years.

One thing that contributes to employee satisfaction is the workplace environment that supports the well-being of its staff members. However, it’s the employees’ role to make the most out of it. Having said that, there are a few things that should be considered by organizations as well as employees to encourage the concept of well-being in the working area.

1). Start giving importance to well-being & not just wellness

Most organizations forget the difference between wellness, that focuses on physical health, but not the overall well-being of its employees, which not only includes physical health but also their mental, financial, spiritual and more. Its high time for that to change. This also counts as a good strategy for better performance management.

2). Avoid digital devices for communication

We all know the importance of technology and how it helps us to communicate. Digital devices have had an amazing impact on us over the years. However, that doesn’t mean we should rule out speaking to each other. All types of communication need to co-exist for improved employee relations.

3). Respecting each other’s boundaries

Communicating your limits, such as emotional, physical, spiritual etc., is essential in a workplace to set boundaries and feel yourself to be more in control. Similarly, you should respect other people’s boundaries as well. This will help you manage your stress levels and also of people working around you.

4). Set reasonable expectations

Learn to differentiate between important tasks from the ones that can be dealt with later. Keeping high expectations with yourself is very natural. Although, bringing yourself to the point of burning out over each and every small work is not the practical thing to do.

5). No need to be over-organized

Being organized is undoubtedly a positive quality and helps you become more productive. But sometimes you tend to strive to be too organized that hampers your mental health and eventually decreases productivity. It is better to stay organized up to the level where it does not drain your energy and make you lose your creative side.

6). Never forget to take proper sleep

People are sleeping less than they did in the past. This has to change. Sleep affects our emotional and social interactions. It is never wise to underestimate the importance of a good night’s sleep. It helps us concentrate better and maximizes our performance at work. So, organizations should let their employees take good sleep.

There are so many cases these days referring to employees not being able to maintain a work/life balance or facing serious health problems. It’s time for organizations to keep formal well-being programs. Such initiatives won’t only benefit the staff members but also the organization as it will result in more employee engagement, enhanced staff management & retention.
