Growth of Solar Technology: Options provided by the Solar Power

Solar radiation or electromagnetic radiation is emitted by the sun, and such radiation is captured by solar technologies to turn them into productive and useful energy. Even though all places on Earth receive sunlight, different locations receive different amounts of solar radiation. In India, we receive about 5000 trillion kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year energy with most parts receiving 4-7 kWh per sq. m per day. Solar technologies are used to convert sunlight into electric energy either through photovoltaic (PV) panels or through concentrated solar radiation mirrors. The energy gained from this process can either be stored in batteries/thermal storage or used at once to generate electricity.

There are two main types of solar technologies: photovoltaics (PV) and concentrating solar-thermal power (CSP).

Photovoltaics Technologies:

PV Technologies use devices to absorb the energy from sunlight and pass it through semiconducting materials to convert them into usable electrical energy. These devices are known as solar cells and are connected to form larger power-generating units as modules or panels.

Solar panels, the common name for these PV panels, can be used for various applications such as remote power systems for telecommunications equipment, cabins, remote sensing, and electricity production by commercial and residential solar electric systems. The energy acquired from these panels is considered clean and renewable energy. Moreover, installing a solar panel system is a one-time investment that can significantly reduce issues such as power cuts and generate electricity for commercial and even domestic needs. The principle material, i.e. sunlight, is available for free everywhere, anywhere and these solar panels require minimal maintenance while simultaneously they generate consistent and continuous electricity.

Solar rooftop is a panel for solar energy that can be placed on the top of the roofs of residential, commercial, or institutional buildings. These products provide an eco-friendly form of energy that does not produce any type of harmful gases or pollution.

Concentrating Solar-Thermal Power (CSP) Technologies:

These CSP technologies convert the energy from sunlight to power a turbine, which generates electricity. These same technologies can be used to deliver heat to a variety of industrial applications, like food processing, water desalination, chemical production, and enhanced oil recovery, and mineral processing. These CSP systems have low operating costs and at the same time, produce power at a high-efficiency rate. Even though concentrating solar power is considered sustainable and incredibly versatile, it’s not always the best option for some communities as the upfront cost of installing these solar power infrastructure and storage systems for thermal energy can be costly.

System Integration:

Using solar energy efficiently and effectively is not just about solar products. It also involves implementing solar energy into the electric grid, while at the same time maintaining grid security and reliability. System integration research is conducted worldwide to make reliable, resilient, secure, and affordable solar energy integration onto the electric grid in different countries. For most of the past century, electric grids were placed far away from human civilisation because they involved large-scale, centralised energy generation. However, modern electric grids are much more complex, involving large energy plants and other variable sources like solar, wind, energy storage systems, power electronic devices, and small-scale energy generation systems.

Solutions Provided by Solar companies

Solar companies are committed to providing a clean solution to the growing energy demand for India. The company analyses your power requirement, and they design a solution to provide a road map for your transition into solar energy. According to them, anyone with a backyard or a roof can go solar. They prominently provide rooftop solar solutions in the cluttered urban regions where a backyard’s possibility is low. The solar energy company provides on the grid and off the grid or hybrid system which is long-lasting, cost-efficient and a clean, sustainable mode of energy.
